Biography

Edward Gao was born in Manitoba, grew up in Charlottetown PEI, and has lived across our great nation in more than six different provinces to date. Prior to moving to Calgary, Edward obtained a Bachelor’s of Science with High Honours in Mechanical Engineering from University of Toronto, with a minor in Robotics as well as a minor in Engineering Business. Edward has been living in Calgary for more than 6 years, working as a professional engineer for one of the largest pipeline companies in North America. Throughout his history in politics, Edward has opposed corrupt “business as usual” policies that pander to special interest groups and specific voter blocks; instead, he passionately advocates a principled approach to politics that supports individual rights and serves the best interests of all Canadians.

Messages to Constituent

Alberta’s vote is being taken for granted.

It’s become very obvious, as one party after another refuses to guarantee pipelines through Quebec and BC under federal jurisdiction, despite being undeniably in the national interest. This comes even as they all support imposing a carbon tax on provinces, which increases the cost of living for every Canadian while further suppressing investment in Canadian energy. And as if this wasn’t bad enough, all the other parties also refuse to support reducing equalization payments to Quebec and other provinces, despite our province’s current recession and hundreds of thousands of Albertans out of work.

These are only a few of the many important policies that sets the People’s Party apart. But the core issue this election is much more insidious: politics in Canada has been highjacked by special interest groups, and the other parties do not have the principles or conviction to fight back.

Canada, and especially Alberta, cannot afford the weak leadership O’Toole or Trudeau offers.

Both parties pander to various special interest groups, including those with anti pipeline agendas.

They support corporate welfare and handouts to the politically connected (no surprise considering both parties have the same top donors). They campaign specifically to certain voter blocks in “contested” ridings in Quebec and Ontario, at the expense of the rest of the country. They think this is the way to win elections in Canada, and they are betting that we don’t care enough to reject this intellectually and morally corrupt approach to politics.

We must take a principled stand against this, because if we do not, Albertans and other ordinary Canadians will lose our voice in federal politics. And as the fastest growing political movement in Canada’s history and a candidate in almost every riding across the country, the People’s Party is ready to fight for the people of Canada.

Our vision is a federal government that serves the best interest of ALL Canadians, and is not beholden to special interest groups or specific voter blocks.

If you’re tired of backroom deals, political correctness, “strategic” pandering, and politics as usual, then support us. Send the message that corrupt policies meant to buy votes from special interests and voter blocks will cost votes in Alberta. We are doing politics differently. Together, let’s REFORM politics in Ottawa!

Policy Priorities

Support Our Energy Economy

Our policies should allow for the responsible development of both oil & gas as well as renewables, rather than push global energy demand to countries with lower environmental and ethical standards.

- No carbon tax
- Build pipelines by reasserting jurisdiction over federally regulated pipelines, imposing projects on provinces if necessary

No Vaccine Passports

Both Conservatives and Liberals support requiring individuals provide private and personal medical records or be excluded from parts of society. This will create a two-tier society that promotes discrimination and segregation based on health status, in violation of our Charter rights and freedoms.

Furthermore, this dangerous consolidation of political power establishes a precedent that future governments may use in ways even vaccine passport supporters may not endorse. We need a more rational approach with targeted measures to protect those most at risk.

- No vaccine mandates
- No vaccine passports

Reduce the Cost of Living

Our cost of living continues to rise as we are forced to finance the vote buying schemes and reckless, runaway spending of the Conservatives and Liberals. The average Canadian family now pays more in taxes than for food, shelter, and clothing combined. Policies that cost Canadians billions of dollars are maintained to protect the interests of small but powerful lobby groups. Annualized inflation has increased to 3.7%, equivalent to a 3.7% average pay cut for Canadians.

- Phase out supply management and other protectionist programs to reduce costs for Canadian consumers
- Eliminate inflation and establish sound monetary policy backed by economic principles instead of political interests
- Eliminate all interprovincial trade barriers which cost the average Canadian family $7,500 every year*
- Balance the budget within 4 years by cutting wasteful and unnecessary spending
- Cut taxes for every Canadian (including eliminating the carbon tax), and replace complicated tax benefits and loopholes with a simple and fair tax system

* According to a 2016 Canadian Journal of Economics study

Reduce Equalization Payments

Each year Alberta sends billions of dollars to other provinces through the federal equalization program, despite our province’s current recession and hundreds of thousands of Albertans out of work. This program needs to be reformed to ensure fairness for all provinces, keeping more money in Alberta to address our needs.

Eliminate Corporate Welfare

Corporate subsidies, bailouts, and other government interventions designed to please politically connected businesses and specific voter blocks cost taxpayers $5 billion to $10 billion every year. This must be eliminated to create a fair playing field and reduce taxes for all businesses, encouraging investment and productivity growth.
